A story of two women, Madhavi (Meena Kumari), self-effacing, spiritual and
totally steeped in indegenous culture. Bhanu (Padmini), sensuous, independent,
possessive and passionate. They both love Kumar Rajesh (Dharmendra). Kumar
reciprocates Madhavi's feeling for him, but in a paltonic way. When Kumar
marries Bhanu, she cannot bear to see Kumar's affection for Madhavi, and
taunts and torments her to the point of attempting suicide. Madhavi is saved
by Moti Babu (Raj Kumar), a rake and a scoundrel, who uses Madhavi as a pawn
to blackmail Kumar and his mother.
